BRAVO! to DCS Advanced Band

Congratulations to the Advanced Band for their performance on Friday, May 8, at the Damascus Christian Band Festival held at Warner Pacific College.  There were six bands that performed. The DCS Advanced Band received the highest score of the six bands from the adjudicator. Without question the band had their best performance of the year.  The adjudicator Pat Vandehey, director of bands at George Fox University wrote "Very nice programing, well played! Thank you".  When he came up to clinic the band, he came over to me and said " what a wonderful surprise".  The score that we received was quite high and not far from qualifying for state competition.  That is a real compliment to the talents and efforts of the 26 students.
For those of you that were not able to be there to hear them, we will repeat the music, plus some more,  at the spring program on May 19.

Psalm 33:1-4

Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely of the upright.  Praise the LORD with harp; sing unto him with the psaltry and an instrument of ten strings.  Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.  For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
As a band director, I especially like the "play skillfully".  The part "with a loud noise", I assume means with good breath support.  However, the most important part is "the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth".

Parent Teacher Conferences and Maple/Chocolate Bars

Again this grading period I am giving each student who has a parent attend the parent teacher conference and speak with me or Mrs. Schmidt a maple or chocolate bar.  To make the deal even sweeter, each parent will receive a maple or chocolate bar at the conference.  On the serious side, we would love to talk to the parents about their child's progress in band.

State Boys Playoff Game at DCS Friday 2/27

Congratulations to the varsity boys basketball team.  They are the #1 seed coming out of league play.  DCS will be hosting a state playoff game on Friday evening February 27.   If we have enough students, faculty and parents to have a strong pep band, I would like to support the team and school by playing that evening.  We will discuss this at rehearsal on Tuesday in Advanced Band.
Please discuss this at home, so we can make a decision at that time.
Unfortunately the girls did not make it to the state playoffs this year.  However, they still had a GREAT season!
Go Eagles!

Possible Pep Band for State Playoff Game

If the girls come out of district with the number one seed, they will play a state playoff game at DCS on Saturday February 28.  If enough students, parents, and faculty are interested and available we will perform at the game.  On next Tuesday, 2/24 we will know if we are playing that evening and if there is enough interest.  I will post on this site if we are playing.

Quote from my Coffee Cup

Bach gave us God's Word
Mozart gave us God's Laughter
Beethoven gave us God's Fire
God gave us Music that we might pray without words

I know this is well known, but it is good to see and think about again.

PEP BAND and a Drummers National Anthem

Great job tonight Pep Band.  We had 29 in the band, 22 students and 7 adults.  DCS won both games and the band sounded strong, so a GOOD evening.
I told the drummers I would post the national anthem from a drummers perspective, here it is.
Oh, say can you BOOM, CRASH
By the dawn's early BOOM, CRASH
What so proudly we BOOM, CRASH
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright BOOM, CRASH
Through the perilous BOOM, CRASH
O'er the ramparts we BOOM, CRASH
Were so gallantly streaming? 3 &

Feb 6 Friday from 5-9 PM for  a Girls/Boys doubleheader with Life Christian at DCS
Feb 13 Friday from 5-9 PM for the last regular home game of the year, it will be a Girls/Boys doubleheader with Southwest Christian.  The Girls game with Southwest Christian should be for the League Championship.
Please email me if you are going to join us, however if you show up I WILL have music for you.
If you can only join our group for one Friday, fine, do it.
